Photos
I’ve always taken photographs. In fact I have taken a one every day for 29 years!
I did it analogue for six, then returning to Manchester for the first time after the IRA bomb I sat on the train cross the Pennines imagining the photo I’d take and realised I had begun to preremeber, so I stopped.
I started again in 2002 when my daughter was one, sitting outside a Writing Squad sharing in Sheffield. Digital this time, and have continued ever since. I don’t share those pictures, they’re only really interesting to me and the family.
Occasionally I set myself small projects to provide some focus, aim for more than the quotidian. Like these below.

Amsterdam Bikes
For several years my wife’s sister lived in a flat high in Geldersekade, the other side of the canal one of the cities busiest cycle routes. I got a bit obsessed capturing the different bikes, different riding styles, clothes, the things they carried.
Non Siamo Gondolieri
This came before the Amsterdam bikes, looking for some non cliched way of capturing being back in Venice I noticed the motoscafo drivers’ fifty metre stare and got my long lens out.
Take Back Manchester
Simply that, when the Tories came to conference
